SHELTER WEEK  
 

This is our 18th Year for doing Shelter Week / Housing the Homeless.
Shelter Week will start on Palm Sunday and run Through Easter Sunday.

We receive our guests from the South Oakland Shelter Intake Site. We provide transportation to and from Royal Oak to Walled Lake each evening and morning. Dinner, Breakfast and a lunch to go are offered. Many volunteers are needed during this week to make our guests feel welcomed!

We provide the mandatory "Protecting God's Children" workshop for all Volunteers.

Services we offer

    • Overnight Shifts: 11 PM - 5 AM, and 5 AM - 8 AM

Help Needed
We now have in place sign up boards for helping. The sign up boards will be in the Activity center after each Mass. During the week the boards will be in the Main Parking Lot Tower Entrance. Please go to the boards and sign up to help. Below are a list of some of the areas that you would be able to help out with.

Drivers

  • Evening drivers will be needed to pick up the clients from the Royal Oak location of the South Oakland Shelter office.
  • Morning driver will be needed to take the clients to the South Oakland Shelter offices.

Hosts

  • Morning hosts: we need hosts to come in at 6 am to 9 am to help get the clients breakfast, and into their rides back to Royal Oak.
  • Afternoon hosts: hosts welcome the clients to our facility, escort them to the showers, and sit and have dinner with our guests. Hours for the afternoon hosts – 5 PM to 10 PM.
  • Overnight hosts: overnight hosts stay in Zepf Hall and are there to wake up our guests at designated times, so that they can get to their jobs on time.

Lunch Preparation

  • Lunch preparation is done from 4 PM to 6 PM. We prepare lunch for each guest to take with them while they are away for the day from our facility.

Breakfast Preparation

  • Breakfast in the morning has to be ready by 6 AM for our guests. Food has to be prepared on hot plates that each group would have to bring in with them. We do not have cooking or food preparation equipment in Zepf Hall.

Dinner Preparation

  • Dinner in the evening has to be ready by 6 PM for our guests. Food has to be prepared on hot plates that each group would have to bring in with them. We do not have cooking or food preparation equipment in Zepf Hall.

Basketball Night

  • We have the Activity center for a couple night during the week, and we need players to participate.
