Originally founded as a mission church in 1923 to serve the outlying area of what were then Detroit’s start-up suburbs, the first official mass in Zepf Hall was June 1929. The existing church was dedicated in 1956. St. William Parish in Walled Lake, continues to celebrate over 80 years of God being faithful to the covenant with this community.
Our parish is located in the heart of Walled Lake, near Pontiac Trail and Maple (15 Mile) and our boundaries incorporate approximately 45 square miles, including all of Walled Lake and Wixom-and parts of West Bloomfield, Commerce, and Novi. The parish is comprised of some 1900 registered families.
During the 75th Celebration of the founding of St. William Parish, Archbishop Vigneron offered this comparison, “St. William’s is like a M.A.S.H unit, a mobile hospital where Jesus sheds his mercy upon us and prepares us for a life with God. For 75 years, St. William has been that outpost for the mercy of God.”
Coming together as a community and sharing one another’s company outside the walls of the church is what makes St. William Parish special.
Our Pastor, Fr. Michael Savickas offers this view of our parish mission (which is: “To live the Good News so joyfully, that we can’t help but proclaim it.) “Our parish mission statement calls us to live out our faith joyfully,” Fr. Savickas said. “When we get together, we can’t help but greet people warmly. It’s what makes us who we are.”
